Leaders Recognized by Greater Orlando Sports Commission

Two Special Olympics Florida leaders have been named finalists for the 2026 SPORTYS, highlighting their impact on Central Florida’s sports community. Lori Newcomb and BJ Mealy were among 65 finalists announced by the Greater Orlando Sports Commission for its annual awards program recognizing excellence across the industry.

Lori, our Sr. Vice President for Partnerships & Foundation Relations, is a finalist in the Best in Corporate Partnerships category. She has played a key role in strengthening relationships that support inclusive sports programming across the state. Her work has helped expand opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities while elevating the organization’s presence among corporate partners in the region.

BJ Mealy

BJ, our Vice President of Programs, earned recognition in the Best in Social Responsibility category for his leadership in advancing community-focused initiatives. His efforts with Special Olympics Florida have centered on using sport as a platform for inclusion, health, and social change—core elements of the organization’s mission.

The SPORTYS, presented by Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute, will be streamed June 17, on ClickOrlando.com, with winners revealed during the broadcast. The annual event celebrates individuals and organizations that continue to shape Greater Orlando’s reputation as a leading sports destination.
